Sentosa Island- Singapore

Sentosa Island is a popular get away resort on the Singapore Strait. There are many surrounding islands namely Bukom Island, Brani island, Seringat Island, Kusu Island, Lazarus Island, St. John Island,  Sudong Island, Semakau Island, Sinang Island, and Sebarok Island. Small islands like Subar Darat Island, Subar Laut Island, Tekukor Island and Junk Island. Sentosa offers great attractions, beaches, nature, dining, shops, and golf. You can find the famous Universal Studios Singapore in Sentosa Island.

Sentosa Island

The name “Sentosa” derived from Sanskrit Santosha, which is common name in India for Santosh that means satisfaction. From the Malay it means peace and tranquility”, but before it become Sentosa it was known by other name Pulau Blakang Mati which means “Island of Death from behind”.

the Legend of the name is uncertain. As per history, it was a place where pirates attacked resulted to betrayal and death, a warrior spirit lingering on the island, some says it was due to a plague that killed almost the inhabitants and due to the infertile soil that no crops were able to survive. Whatever the real reason for that name, I’m glad that it become ‘Sentosa”.

Sentosa Station

We started from Resort World Sentosa where the Tour bus dropped us and we took the Beach tram / Buses going to selected places within the Sentosa Island. We visited the The Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom.

The Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom is near to the Sentosa Station of Cable car, and the Tiger Sky.

We took a beach tram going to the Palawan Beach, crossed the hanging bridge to the Palawan Island and be at the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia.

There are many cafes to choose from in Sentosa Island from Asian, Mediterranean to International cuisines, from garden setting to fine dining. Balinese and Thai foods such as Tom Yum soup which is and has been my favorite, is spicy and sweet (seafoods with coconut milk, chillies, lemon grass, lime leaves), Satay Madura (chicken Barbecue), Combi bakar (mixed barbecue platter), and Hotplate Seafood tofu. For more about Sentosa, you can click here.

Try to visit the Universal Studios and do some adrenaline rides.

The day was well-spent in Sentosa Island.

Will be posting for the rest of my Singapore trip…soon……
